I have
learned many things in Advanced Composition. I have learned to make
web pages.
That is something I probably would have never learned if I had not
taken this class. I learned many
new ways of research such as the different kinds of resources
in the library. I never knew their was
such thing as a scholarly journal or so many different kinds of references.
I have also found many ways
to make my writing better. For example, I learned new ways to
read my writing as well as other peoples
writing. Before this class I never thought to break down a piece
of writing to look for such things as
accuracy, clarity, readability, and style. I always thought that
you should just read and look for mistakes.
I have been amazed at the talent of my classmates when it comes to
writing. I almost feel unworthy.
But I know that I am not a writer and I don't claim to be.
I have also as what a manuscript
is. It is written by hand. I know that a fools cap is a large
piece
of paper and when folded it is called a folio. If you fold a
folio, it is called a quarto and if you cut along
the top it will make four separate pages. If folded once more
you will have an octavo. Each page is
called a signature and each sheet is called a leaf.
Editing other peoples work
has been helpful to me because I have always been one of those people
who put in extra words just to make the paper longer. I did take
English grammar under Dr. Sigmon but
I feel that he tried to push to much into us. I did not take
as much from the coarse I as I hoped to. So
advanced composition did help me in that manner. We talk about
such things as a past participle and a
direct object. Although I remember learning about those things,
I have been out of school for twelve
years and as we all know everything can stick with.
