Solstice in Finland, 2002
Pete and I met in finland this year for the winter solstice.  Here are some of our pictures:
Do you see the moon?
Sunrise, just south of the arctic circle, dec 22, noon.  we're facing west. Sunset, same day, 2pm.
This is a close up of him at the same moment.  Did i mention it was COLD that day?? -30 C!!
This is pete, returning from a day of dog sledding.
Would you do this for 10 euros?
... well, of course there were reindeer!  ok, so they were all hooked together like a pony ride, but i suppose that's because we were in a tourist trap.
look at my snow angel! look how skinny she is!! no, she'snot anorexic, she's just not wearing the 4 wool sweaters and snowpants she usually was.  this is the naked run-from-the-sauna-and-roll-in-the-snow angel

Here i am in the snowmobile sleigh.  Isn't it just the cutest helmet???  As usual, i had the smallest head around, so they put me in the helmet for children....
It never occured to me where they get the ice from to build igloos and ice sculptures.... until i saw this.
