Great Sand Dunes National Park

The edge of the dunefield from our campsite. The size of the dunes is immense, and rather awe-inspiring.

Mark crossing the seasonal Medano Creek (ice-cold!!) on the way to the dunes.

Kellie and PJ resting below one of the many false summits of High Dune. It gets blazing hot when the sand heats up, but is still very chilly early in the mornings.

Mark heading up the final summit ridge of High Dune. At over 8,000 feet above sea level, it is the highest dune in the park, and one of the largest.

The view across the dunes to the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) Mountains. There are over 30 square miles of dunes in the park.

Mark checking out the nearby Zapata falls, still sporting a curtain of ice.
