I didn't know that I was a lesbian before my first girlfriend. I had a feeling that I was different but I didn't know what being gay was at the time. I've had a couple of girlfriends since then. A couple of years ago I came out to my mother, well actually she finally figured it out. My mother has had a very difficult time accepting that I'm gay. I never force the issue to my mom. I love her a lot and respect her for not wanting to know about the other part of me. It makes it harder for my mom because I'm her only child. But she recently made me very proud of her. I just graduated in May with my masters degree and my mom called my girlfriend and invited her to eat with us. I was thrilled but scared. It was nice having my mom and girlfriend in the same room together. My father still doesn't know...he'll probably have a stroke if he found out. I'm sure he does deep down. Anyway, I went to a local university and got a degree in sociology. Then, I got my second degree in criminal justice. However, I'm still not sure what I want to do exactly. I like working with computers, which is what my current job allows me to do all day long. The pay is pretty good and I can wear whatever I want...there are a lot of benefits from working for a dot com company. Of course, I have to work long hours and I don't have any health benefits, but we're suppose to be getting that soon. |
