The Contributions and Achievements of Ancient civilizations have helped to influence and change is a theme I have chosen and will be writing about as a requirement for my History Reflection. I will be discussing how the three civilizations that I have study this past semester which is, the Roman Empire, Greece, China and, the Muslim, ancient civilizations. Studying the Roman Empire I discover how the Roman laws are some of the laws we use in today times. Roman law became the basic for legal systems . Many of these principles are familiar to Americans today. Among them are these ideas. They are called The Common Principles, and they are
�People of the same status are equal before the law�.
�An accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty�.
�The accused should be allowed to face his or her accuser and defend against the charge�.
�Guilt must be established �clearer than daylight� through evidence�.
�Decision should be based on fairness, allowing judges to interpret the law�.
Greece also had an another effect on our world today and how we do things which, is through architecture some of the designs that are used in some of the buildings we see everyday.Greece not only helped on our way of living but also on our way of writing and using letters which, is by contributed to our alphabet. The alphabets came from to us from the Phoenicians by the way of the Greeks. The word Alphabet itself comes from the first two Greeks letters, Alpha and Beta. This alphabet contained 22 symbols standing for consonant sounds, written in vertical columns from right to left. Later peoples adapted the Phoenician Alphabet to produce our 26 letter Alphabet. Coins also comes from Greece. Coins were made of electrum, an alloy, or natural mix of the gold and silver. The image on a coin showed its value. Coins replaced barter leading to the money economy to today. Now we also use paper money,Plastic credit cards, and electronic transfers.
China Civilization help our establish world by their finding which, helped them develop an accurate calendar with 365 day. The Chinese also made remarkable achievement in the art and technology of bronze making Chinese also discover how to make silk thread from the cocoons of silkworms. Not only did they discover how to make silk but ,they made the first book. They bond thin strips of wood or bamboo together and then carefully drew characters on the flat surface with a brush and ink. Chinese also help develop weapons that were used in war which, was the cannon. The cannon would spread in our civilization, as we launch missiles against each other filled with gunpowder.
Muslims and their civilization help on contributed a great attribution to our civilization, which is through a amazing human being medical thinker Al �Razi an most respected doctor who was once head physician at Baghdad�s Chief Hostal. He wrote many books on medicine including a pioneering study of measles and small pox . Muslim eye surgeon developed a way to treat Cataracts, drawing fluid out of the lenses with a hollow needle for centuries surgeons around the world used this method to save patients eyesight. Arab pharmacist were the first to mix bitter medicines into sweet tasting syrups and gums.
Muslims also set up partnership and bought and sold on credit, and formed banks to change currency to make the money easier Muslims invented the ancestors of today�s banking we get the word check from the Arabic word �Sakk�.
This semester I have learned about all three ancient civilization and how all of the achievement are what builds today and establish a better system for me and others, which is by law, writing, our homes, medicine, money, fabric, the calendar, which we use everyday, and even weapons that human being develop throughout the years. Right this minute something is being establish that would contribute to civilizations ahead.I now know and learned how the past is what makes the present.
