Partial quote from a plaque in the Lightner:
"Louis Comfort Tiffany, the son of the founder of the famous New York jewelry firm, is best know n for his 'favrile' glass and his exquisite lamps and stained glass windows. Starting out as a painter, Tiffany found that he could not say all he wanted to say in just pictures and in the 1870's he started to experiment with making colored glass.
Tiffany also worked as an interior decorator for the rich, one of his credits being the White House in 1883."
