This prison is maintianed by The Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Located on a tiny island far out in the icy waters of the North Sea, Azkaban is nearly impossible to escape from & completely undetectable by Muggles.
The inmates here are guarded by dementors which are hooded creatures who literally suck the life right out of the inmates over time. Dementors feed on positive emotions, which means that after spending much time here the inmates lose all the good feelings & thoughts they once had inside them & are left with a feeling of emotional emptiness. Inmates are forced to relive the darkest, most horrible memories of their lives day in & day out. Some go mad while others simply sink into despair & die. Those who attempt to escape will receive the most dreaded & feared Kiss of Death.
The dementors stay here at Azkaban guarding the prison 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unless they are granted permission to leave by the Ministry of Magic. You will most certainly be accompanied by dementors while you are here at Azkaban. It is not uncommon for some of our visitors to leave this place feeling quite depressed & desolate so be sure to grab a chocolate bar on your way out.
