Originally from Southern California, I currently live in Oklahoma, and am finishing my last year at Southern New Hampshire University (Online).
Upper Crust Bakery is from Paris, France and is well known for their breads, muffins, and desserts. Upper Crust uses fresh, local ingredients, and takes pride in their recipes that have been passed down through generations. They want a logo and symbol that captures the quality of their products and French heritage.
To meet their needs, I set out to design a logo that was strong but elegant, and also picked typefaces that I think help reflect that. The Eiffel Tower is the most famous symbol of Paris, so I incorporated that into their logo.
I also wanted the colors to reflect Upper Crust's values and messaging. To do this, I referred to color theory. Colors can convey different qualities for different cultures, but there are some general guidelines, and those are what I followed.
Yellow conveys joy, warmth, and is generally associated with food. Purple conveys dignity and respect (for their pride in their heritage and products), creativity, and premium quality.
This was my final project in Typography class. We were given an assignment to design a magazine spread for a brief biography of a famous person of our choosing. Shakespeare is one of my favorite famous figures, not only because of his artistic achievements, but because his work continues to move and inspire me. Since his identity is disputed, I thought it would be interesting to use the two pages to showcase that. (I did not draw the picture of Shakespeare or make the wax seal).
