9/08/06 - Fitted Radiator Hose & Washer Bottle Installed

Installed a fitted radiator hose and chrome hose neck on the engine where the hose mounts. The engine is coming together nicely!

9/10/06 -  Planning the AC System

We plan to install an aftermarket air conditioning system manufactured by Classic Auto Air. In order to do this we need a heater controller from a heater only 68 Charger or Coronet. RHM,Jr. recently purchased this piece which will replace our current AC controller. This is the correct AC controller for a 1968 Dodge Coronet. Heater controllers for other B-Body MOPARS vary in design.

2006 Progress # 2
9/21/06 - Seat Repairs

The drivers side seat has become squeaky and uncomfortable even though the foam seat bottom was replaced while the car was at the restoration site. In addition when the seats we purchased they did not come with seat back panels. During this period RHM Jr. restored the driver side seat bottom and fabricated clips to mount the seat back panels acquired from Advanced Restorations and Collision located in Huffman, TX.  Please click the image to view pictures and text explaining how he accomplished these tasks. This information should provide an excellent reference for anyone facing the same restoration challenges.

10/2/06 - Oil Light Repaired / All Warning Lights and Gauges Operational

RHM,Jr. activated the oil pressure light in the instrument panel by fabricating a connector which allows both the manual oil gauge and the sensor which activates the oil light to work simultaneously. Seen here the oil light (right) illuminates when the ignition key is turned on and goes off as soon as the engine oil pressure is sufficient to extinguish it. We are keeping the manual oil pressure gauge even though it distracts from the "stock" look of the dash just in case the oil light bulb burns out.

9/27/06 - New Fuel Filter & Plug Wires Are Installed

In addition to working on the seats, RHM, Jr. has been busy under the hood. The first improvements are the new fuel filter, hose and fuel pipe connection. Also the PCV valve (which was the opposite of the engine previously) is now  installed on the passenger side and the hose from it to the carburetor has been rerouted.

New Plug Wires - In the quest for better performance and a smoother idle from our 440 engine, RHM, Jr. installed new spark plug wires! He says:

"We now have the best idle we've ever had with this engine. It's also running good throughout its power range! It will never have as smooth an idle as my original 440 because of the high performance cam shaft. You can definitely hear and feel that cam when the engine is at idle. It's almost as if it's saying "Yea, I'm bad!"
