DESCRIPTION - (from a series of FOUR) - Anatomy meshes with geometry in thought provoking symbolic colorscapes - human heads represent mental journeys, pondering, reflecting, questioning, dreaming within limits of consciousness - Moderately bold colors, clean hard-edged technique, tightly controlled abstract treatments reveal different angles of the body's most attention grabbing feature - Rich, dense paint application and size of actual artworks exceed visual appeal of their computer monitor images - Level, even, smooth gloss texuture

HISTORY - Kernodle first referred to this set of four paintings as his "cosmic head pieces" - He began the series in year 2000 and worked on them at intervals over the next two years - Influenced by Burne Hogarth's anatomy books, Kernodle clearly credits Hogarth on each painting - He made a drawing for a fifth painting, but abandoned it, because he found the image disturbing and too different from the other four - Each title suggests a distinctive main color theme:  orange/red, ... purple/pink, ...green, ... blue - Each piece required approximately sixty hours of focused, hands-on time to finish - Sometimes these hours spread out over several months, sometimes over more than a year - All these pieces are original, one of a kind, hand painted artworks - No copies
