    Breeding Goldfish

This about how we managed to get our goldfish to finaly breed and what the result are thus far.

Yes our fish did finally bred successfully the addition of lots of aquatic plants are the reason for it. Our plants came from a local water garden and plant nursery, some of the name tags are missing. Early on we only had two water lillies, two forms of Nimphodies, and a clover leaf plant ( after a year of growing this has given good cover). Two new plants that we obtained recently are both natives of South Australian waterways and were recomended for fish habitats, after seeing a new batch of fry living inside these plants I have to agree.

    Cleaning the Pond
Cleaning the pond has presented us with a number of challenges since our fish have started breeding. Earlier it had been a complete drain clean and refill every few months, 6 months ago it was due to be cleaned when we saw a couple of Comet and Shubunkin fry , the thought of new life halted the cleaning and for months now we have been stripping the algae by hand every week or two. Although in the Australian summer we needed topping up the water up to 120 litres each week, as the weather started cooling the thought was on the water quality. We have started pumping out and replenishing approximately 200 litres every few weeks as there has been continual hatchings to the extent that we are unsure if they will ever stop.
