Duvall lives in Fauquier County, near Warrenton, Va., and has been following Tech football closely in recent years. He first became exposed to the Hokies through his relationship with Civil War expert Dr. Bud Robertson.
"We did Gods and Generals and Bud was on the set and gave us great inspiration," Duvall said of the movie, which came out last February. Duvall plays Robert E. Lee.
As for the Hokies, "I've been rootin' for them since you beat Alabama in the bowl game," Duvall said. "You've got a wonderful coach and a great program."
A star of great movies like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, Duvall says he wasn't a great athlete in high school, but did return an interception 105 yards for a touchdown "although I was so tired, I had to walk into the end zone."
His favorite athletes of all time? "Michael Owen an English soccer player, Michael Jordan and Michael Vick. And his brother ain't bad either!" Duvall said.
Like most Tech fans, Duvall watched the Tech-WVU game in Morgantown and was frustrated.
"How come they didn't play like this at West Virginia?" Duvall asked after Tech took a 10-0 halftime lead over the Hurricanes. "This is real drama. There is so much excitement and electricity here. I hope to come back."
