Sony MDR-201V

Sound: 5
Jaw-dropping preciseness seriously marred by lack of bass output and a general
absence of power. 0.1 watt power handling capacity prevented these phones from
accomplishing their task. The treble and midrange was lovely though. A listenable
sound level on these was earsplittingly loud on any other setup.

Feel: 8
Nice earpads, generally comfy design made them quite the joy to wear, further
enhanced by their low mass and general construction. Good, dependable Sony fit.
Quite lightweight.

Design and look: 5
Sleek but empty, a good-looking package with nothing inside. Volume box very
nearly defective--effected only treble on some tapes, only bass on others, and
in some cases didn't work at all. Unicord was its only benefit.

Features: 4
Smallish driver unit (28mm) provided for very nearly NO bass, despite other
phones with drivers of this size being quite presentable in their sound. Volume
box is ludicrously undersized and didn't serve its purpose, and the set was not
even accompanied by a unimatch plug adaptor, something even the cheapest of
phones should come with. Unimpressive power handling capacity and poor frequency
range (by ear, not by box); decent sensitivity (100dB) not put into practice.

Uses: 5
Good size for portable, simply not good enough for home use. Computer output
was as poor as noted under sound.

Price: 7
Not exactly expensive ($30), but certainly overpriced.

Overall: 4
A bad experience, to say the least, and not in keeping with the Sony expectation
of quality.
