THE SPIRIT WORLD

Robert Hyatt
1996

1. A disembodied spirit is one who does not have a body. This
is a temporary state until after judgment when they receive
their resurrected bodies.

2. The spirit world is the place where disembodied spirits go,
those who have left mortality and await their resurrection,
final redemption, and judgment. This world is divided into
two parts: paradise for those who are righteous, and hell or
spirit prison for those who are wicked.

3. Question: Where is the spirit world? Answer: Here on this
earth. We cannot see it because it is spirit matter. It
is more refined than physical matter.

4. Until the death of Christ, these two groups were separated by
an impassable gulf. During the three days that Christ laid
in the tomb he went to the spirit world and bridged this gap.
He opened the doors to missionary work among the wicked by
spirits from paradise.

5. For those spirits in prison who repent and accept the gospel,
they may leave hell and dwell with the righteous in paradise.

6. There is an influence for good and evil even in the spirit
world. In fact, it is more intense there for both good and
evil.

7. Ordinances such as baptism, endowments, and sealings cannot
be done by spirits. This work is done on their behalf here
in mortality by proxy in LDS temples.

8. Life in the spirit world is similar in many ways to this
earth life. They have buildings, people wear clothing, and
they have flowers and grass. Much missionary work is done
to the wicked spirits in spirit prison. There is spiritual
growth and much learning by the righteous saints in paradise.
There are family groups, continued obedience and many spirits
anxiously awaiting their resurrected bodies.

9. There is perfect order in paradise and everyone I'm sure, has
their respective duties to perform.

10. Death or in other words, the transition from mortality to
immortality should not be feared by those who keep the laws
of the gospel and by those who strive for righteousness.
Only the wicked should fear death.
