| Judo - Grading System |
| The knowledge and experience that the judoka has reached is indicated by the colour of his belt. The beginner will start with a white belt . He practises the art and participates in competions . At certain stages the judoka will sit for exams and advances to the next grade . |
| Grade(kyu) Belt 6th Rokkyu White 5th Gokyu Yellow 4th Yonkyu / Shikyu Orange 3rd Sankyu Green 2nd Nikyu Blue 1st Ikkyu Brown |
| The judoka then become a black belt and then starts on a new grading system , the Dan . |
| Dan Grade Belt 1st Shodan Black 2nd Nidan Black 3rd Sandan Black 4th Yodan Black 5th Godan Black 6th Rokudan Red/White or Black 7th Shichidan Red/White or Black 8th Hachidan Red/White or Black 9th Kudan Red or Black 10th Judan Red or Black 11th Juchidan Red or Black 12th Junidan / Shidan Wide White belt or Black |
