| The Barn: My wife Kathy and I had this barn built in the summer of 2004. We designed it ourselves and were inspired by the barns we see around our community. We needed a place where she could teach Yoga, also where we could house our cars and a place for my woodworking. Another design consideration was that it had to look like it was built along with our house in 1900. We found a web site that builds post and beam structures that are typical in and around New England that were built back in the earlier days before plywood and 2x4 stick construction was invented. The pictures on this site gave us the look and the porportions that we thought would look about right. The bottom floor is where my workshop is housed. A lot of my woodworking tools are on rollers so when I move the cars out of the building I have a fairly large space for my woodworking. I still need to find a way to heat it. My Dad and I started to build Adirondack chairs as a small side business. So far all the chairs we made we gave away to people. Next spring when the business conditions are right I hope to make and sell quite a few chairs. The upper floor on the barn is where my wife teaches her Yoga classes. The room is a comfortable 16'x30' and can take 8 students at a time. After Kathy's first session of Yoga classes the room seemed to be just the right size and comfortable for the students. |
