DESCENDANTS OF: Wilhelm Weinfeld (b. 1820 in Prussia) and Francesca Fischer (b. 1824 in Bavaria) AS RELATED TO: Robert Andrew Walker (their great-great-great grandson)

NOTE: Throughout, LDS refers to the Church of the Latter Day Saints (The Mormons). Their web site includes the genealogies of many American families, not just Mormons. The site included information on descendants of the Winfields.

The number of periods preceding the asterisk (*) before a name indicates to which generation the person belongs. The first generation is Wilhelm Weinfield (1820-1898) and his wife, Francesca Fischer (1824-1906), who came to the U.S. from Germany, he from Prussia, she from Bavaria. Their daughter, Mary Frances, and her brothers and sisters, are preceded by a single period and then the asterisk, indicating that they belong to the second generation. Marquard Wolfe (1877-1970), my great grandfather, is preceded by two periods and then the asterisk, and belongs to the third generation, etc. My generation is preceded by 5 periods and an asterisk, thus indicating we are the 6th generation to follow Wilhelm and Francesca Weinfeld. All relationships are calculated as related to me. Add or subtract "greats" as appropriate. If an individual has had more than one spouse, the first marriage is listed first, followed by all children of that marriage, and then the second spouse is listed, and the children of that marriage are then listed, and so on. Many of the descendants of Wilhelm and Francesca remain in the western Potomac Valley of West Virginia and Maryland, centered around Cumberland, MD, though many have migrated elsewhere. Some of the Winfields now live in Frostburg, MD. Wilhelm and Francesca were married in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland, MD, and are buried in the SS. Peter and Paul cemetery. Many of their descendants were also members of this church, and are also buried in the same cemetery. At some point, the spelling of the last name changes from Weinfeld to Winfield.

George A. Wolfe's obituary states that she had been dead nearly 50 years at the time of his death. Dates of birth and death and places of birth and burial from LDS, 6 14 2000. At some point, she appears to have changed spelling of last name from Weinfeld to Winfield, as have others of Wilhelm's descendants. I only learned of Wilhelm Weinfeld on 6 14 2000 from LDS website.

Helen Wolfe Newman stated she believed his birthday was in August. Year is certain. On 3/22/1994 Elma Zimmerman Wolfe said his birthday was 8/26/77. Birth order of children was worked out with Charles Anthony Wolfe in July, 1994.

Was a brakeman on the Western Maryland Railroad (now a part of the CSX system). Two of his grandsons (Wayne Houdersheldt and Gerald Kirk) and one of his sons (Fredrick Wolfe) continue this tradition. Settled in Wiley Ford in the mid 1930's in a house on property he bought from his father, Marquard, who in turn bought the property from his father-in-law, George Miltenberger. Suffered a weak heart, and died of a heart attack in Salisaw OK while on a trip to see his daughters Rosalie (in OK) and Helen (in AR).

Served in the Navy in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cabot (CVL-28), a light aircraft carrier, in the Pacific. His ship was hit by a Kamikaze attack at Samar off the Philippines on November 25, 1944. Two suicide planes hit the ship, and 36 men were killed. He was thrown a large portion of the ship's length by the subsequent explosion. As a result, he lost the hearing in one of his ears. He was a childhood best friend of Harold Allen Walker, the husband of his sister, Helen Marlene Wolfe. Retired from Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan. Lives in Livonia, Michigan, near Detroit.
