WEAVERVILLE - After only 15 minutes of high school baseball, it was evident which team was headed to the postseason.

The Roberson Rams scored 18 runs in three innings and repeated the batting order twice in the first and third to pound the North Buncombe Black Hawks, 21-5, on Friday at North Buncombe Field. It was the second time this week the Black Hawks trailed by double-digits before they scored a single run in a Mountain Athletic Conference game.

With games against East Henderson and Tuscola next week, Roberson is setting its sights on the MAC title.

"We know what's down the line and what we want from the conference," Rams coach Tom Smith said. "I saw a lot of kids focused in their at-bats. We didn't give away any at-bats."

Roberson (17-1, 10-1) jumped on North Buncombe's pitching staff early with Bobby Hubbard's three-run triple.

After runners reached base on two walks, which sandwiched a double, Hubbard drilled a triple down the first base line to clear the bases. He scored when North Buncombe committed the first of four errors in the game. Roberson scored three more runs in the second before pounding North Buncombe's pitching staff in the third.

Kory Radford, the Rams' starting pitcher, and Kenny Smith reached base before coming home on Chris Price's three-run homer. North Buncombe's starting pitcher Ryan Klinger was pulled from the game, but the bullpen provided very little relief.

Roberson pounded the relievers for five hits to score eight runs in the third.

As the Rams circled the bases, North Buncombe coach Randy Campbell said he was not surprised.

"I told them (Thursday night) what it would be like," Campbell said. "They hit the ball well. They hit it hard, very hard from the first inning."

North Buncombe (7-9, 3-6) avoided the shutout and was able to scratch out five hits against Roberson's pitching staff. The five runs the Black Hawks produced came in the third when Roberson committed three errors by mishandling ground balls and overthrowing bases.

Radford, who committed one of the errors, wasn't rattled by the mishaps as the three outs were recorded via the strikeout.

Roberson made up for the errors the next two innings. It scored three more runs, which included a solo home run by Ryan Radford, Cory's twin brother, for the final score.

"It's been a while since we scored this many runs," said Smith, who saw a lot of positives from this game.

"What we can take from this game is that we can focus no matter what the situation," he said. "We have five more games, and nothing is clinched yet."
