| Tomson Highway was born on December 6th 1951 in northern Manitoba Canada and is the second youngest of twelve children. His father Joe Highway, was a trapper, fisherman, and legendary dog sled racer where he was from. It wasnt until Tomson was a teenager that he became fluent in English. Before then Cree was the only language spoken by his family. At the age of six Tomson was sent to a Catholic boarding school and was raised in numerous white foster homes until his graduation in 1970. He graduated from University of Western Ontario with a bachelors in music in 1975. Afterwards he spent several years with Native people all across Canada. When Tomson turned thirty he took all of his experiences of working with Native people and started writing plays. ( Information, courtesy of google.com) |
