Joe Wales ~ Kiwanis President
Hot Springs Village, Arkansas

January 24, 2008

   Once upon a time . . .

This particular story, classmates, begins after some conversation between Ted Brewer and Joe Wales. For whatever reason, Joe sent Ted a copy of Joe and Ted’s 3rd grade class. Ted forwarded it to Sharon, who sent it to Judy and me. Judy put the pic on our website with the title, “Can you find you?” At that point, the real fun began.

At first, it was just Sharon, Judy and I stumbling around trying to attach names to faces (pretty darn YOUNG faces, I might add!) Eventually we have added Linda Drake, Sue Miller, Joe (again), Ardella and Montrew Gross to the mix. We still are only about ½ named, and I am hoping for even more of you to jump on the bandwagon. We have confirmed that there were at least TWO 3rd grade classes, Mrs. Marlin taught the one Joe sent in, and Mrs. Mathews taught the other. We’d love to get a picture of Mrs. Mathews’s class. Anybody have one?

In any case, we’ve had fun bouncing memories back and forth. We should do this more often! Ha! I hope this exercise will allow more of you to become familiarized to our website – Judy is doing such a super job with it!

Two spin-offs to this adventure have been a Franklin city history of former high schools from Montrew Gross, which I plan to summarize under separate cover, and secondly Joe Wales has sent in the included picture, showing him at the dais of his local Kiwanis Club.

Joe is the President of the club there in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. He will be visiting us in Franklin this April, where his grand daughter, whose name is April, will be married. Here is the picture of Joe, along with some of his words for the class:

“Hi Ted, good to hear from you. We live in Hot Springs Village. Yes, I would like it very much to put it on the site and also about the wedding. April is my #3 granddaughter and is a graduate from Indiana State. I sing with a men's group in the Village. My wife (Willene) and I are into a lot of things to help people who are in need. We have been blessed by GOD to help in many ways. Looking forward to seeing you in April.”

Joe is going to give Sharon the dates he will be in Franklin, and we will try to come up with a way of seeing him while he is here.

Watch your email for times and places!
