More notes:  per granddaughter: Elma Mae Gill  Fowler:  Henry died during a great flu epidemic between 1918 and 1920, according to his granddaughter, Elma Mae Gill Fowler. My great grandfather was Henry Tucker --  most likely Henry Clarence Tucker. He was born in KY and moved to IN. His wife, Alice Belle Mason was my great grandmother, however she died 3 and 1/2 years after my grandmother, Edna Pearl Tucker, was born in July 16, 1898.

One of Henry and Alice Bell's children, Clara Marie, told her children that she was born in Illinois and came to Indiana in a covered wagon. That would place Henry and Allice Bell in Illinois. between Kentucky and Indiana.

Henry married a woman named Mrs. Edith Vandivier and was buried somewhere near the Mt. Pleasant community in Shelby or Marion Co. IN. This Mt. Pleasant may be in southeast Indianapolis on the border of Shelby Co.

Henry's children were George, Ira, Clarence E. "Pete", Myrtle, Clara Marie, and Edna Pearl. I have the names of most of these children's descendants and who they married if it is of interest to anyone.

My mother's aunt wouldn't tell her about her father Henry's past. There seemed to be a deep dark secret. Someone once said that maybe they had a horse thief or something like that in the family or that someone married a mulatto woman, which in those days wasn't often approved of. -- Judith Fowler Robbins

What was going on in the world?

The United States became a world power the year Pearl Tucker was born. Wm. McKinley was President. The Spanish American War was fought that year in which Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines became American protectorates, while Cuba gained independence from Spain. Up north, New York's five boroughs became New York City.

Pearl lived in Clark Twp. with her parents, Henry Tucker and Alice Bell Mason. They attended the 7th Day Advent Church. They lived on the Chester DeVore place on the Whiteland Road. Her mother died when she was three.  Elma Mae, her daughter, was born while Garry and Pearl lived in the small DeVore house on the same farms.
