| The Passion of the Christ | |||||||||||||||
| My take on the film. | |||||||||||||||
| There is only one word to describe the film: Awesome. The film was the best representation of the suffering, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ ever. The movie is very violent and gory. Scenes show the Roman soldiers beating him severely and you can see the skin shreading off his back. The Romans were historically a violent, brutal, bloody group of people. This film accurately and historically depicts their brutality towards those whom they punished. I would recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to go see it to take advantage of that opportunity. While it may be too brutal and upsetting for some-especially young children, this movie will change your life forever. There is not the first human emotion I can think of that this film does not make you feel. Love, compassion, fear, helplessness, anger, hatred, peace, joy, suffering....this movie will make you feel them all. At times you will forget you are actually in a theatre. This movie is so realistic and captivating that you cant focus on anything else. The camera work, video, and sound effects are unbelievable! At times you can almost swear you feel the cool mist of the Garden of Gethsemane and the hot, dry sands of Jerusalem. At times you'll want to just stand up and scream "Stop!!!!!" as the Roman soldiers beat our Savior to shreds. As you watch the soldiers beat and crucify him a flood of emotions comes over you all at once. On the one hand you feel like they deserved every flame of hell that they got once they died for the way they treated our Savior, but on the other hand, you saw how even though they bruatlly tortured him, he still died forgiving them for what they were doing and you realize that He loves them just as much as you and I. This still doesn't overcome the feeling arising within wishing you could just reach up and slay all the soldiers and deliver our blessed Savior from his torture. You will feel compassion for Judas Iscariot after he realizes just what he has done. Although he is very heartbroken by what he did, he never asks forgiveness from God but instead hangs himself from a tree, never receiving Christ as his Savior. You also feel the same emotions as Peter when in the Garden of Gethsemane he mercilessly fought the Jewish leaders who came to arrest Jesus. He fought furiously in the few seconds before Jesus convinced him to drop his sword and stop resisting. Then later after Jesus was arrested, Peter denied beng a follower of Jesus although earlier in his life he had promised Jesus he would follow him even to his death. You feel the sorrow he feels as he realizes he has let down his master and you sympathize with him as you think how you probably would have reacted in the same situation. All throughout the movie, glimpses are exchanged between Jesus and his mother Mary and flashbacks from his earlier life at home with her are shown. These scenes will break your heart and are enough to make almost any man cry. No one cannot escape feeling the pain, grief, and sorrow Mary is experiencing as she watches her beloved Son be broken for all men. When Jesus is upon the cross and Mary has almost passed her breaking point and stoops down and picks up a handful of rocks to throw at the soldiers, Jesus looks up and speaks some words which make her realize she cannot do this, and ever so helplessly, she drops the rocks slowly from her trembling hands. Then upon his Christ's death, the camera takes you up above the clouds and you fall with a tear drop from the Father's eye. This solitary tear drop hits the earth right at the Cross and an earthquake shakes the land and the camera's take you into the temple as the Holy of Holies is rent in two symbolizing that we no longer need a priest to be able to approach our Father, but that the law has been fulfilled and now we may approach him directly through Sacrifice of his beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. The next scene from straight overhead shows Satan writhing in anguish and screaming down in the pits as he realizes he has been defeated and the Ultimate Sacrifice has been made. Then upon the third day after his death we enter the tomb where Jesus was buried and witness his graveclothes emptying and we see him standing in the tomb with the scars in his hands and his feet as he looks up towards heaven as if praying to the Father. This movie will grab your attention and will not let go. You will feel everything described here and this movie should make you realize just how much our wonderful Savior loves each and every one of us and just how unworthy we are. At any time during his ordeal he could have given up and slain all his oppressors but he didn't. He loved us so much that he kept on, offering not the first iota of resistance. I definitely recommend that you go see it if you haven't already. Your life will never be the same! |
