Born in the centre of Holland, Rob van Beek (aka Rob Belleville) grew up in a quite musical family with a sister who played piano from an early age and a fanatic guitar-playing dad. He came in touch with the early house tunes when he listened to the legendary Dutch radio programme For Those Who Like To Groove. Since then a life without electronic music was unthinkable for him. In the mid-nineties he started to buy records, while he got more and more interested in the dj-aspects of the underground dance scene.
Rob teached himself to mix by synchronizing records on his first Technics turntable with songs on his MiniDisc-recorder. His skills behind his turntables developed quickly. Eventually, his deep and unique style of mixing resulted in two performances in a club in Utrecht. After eight years of listening to all kinds of electronic music, Rob became curious of its compository structures. He decided to buy a Korg ER-1 drumcomputer, followed by the analog synth version EA-1. Operating under the name Artilect Rob recorded his first hardware sequencer-based works on his unreleased album entitled Memorabilia. The highlight Does She Exist? was published as a demo by a Dutch issue of Future Music (magazine about music technology).
In 2005 Rob made his debut as a producer. His album Eager For More was released on the netlabels Itunes and Dance-Tunes. It contains fine examples of his passion for hypnotic, compelling Detroit-minded grooves and well-constructed rhythms.
Rob is now focusing on his productions on the French label Accelerator which will be released next year. |
