Tristan da Cunha and Gough Islands: 1989! A great adventure... Through work we had to do a lobster survey, but had time for exploration as well...

Some of our group on top of the Tristan volcano (it still steams!) The lobster vessel which brought us there in the background. A youthful me on left.

Our research ship, Africana, ready to take us back, off the main settlement called Edinburgh

The true essence of unspoiled natural beauty ... 3rd pond, Nightingale Isl.

My job was to take pictures and video footage.

Small yellow soldier fish. They were quite voracious predators!

There were seals everywhere on the outlying islands

It was strange to find colourful wrasses in the kelp!

Zoanthids

Tristan's profile, after many days away from home, got the mind wandering... ;-)

The obligatory sunset pic...

The graceful albatross ... yet the chicks (called Mollys) were cute and gawky ... and totally unafraid.
