Recalls Fixing Problems Too Late

Today the most used tool of transportation is the automobile.  It has been a great invention that was created in the late 18th century.  Year after year auto makers create new and improved models.  The problem with new developed, cars today is that they could be called in for one or more recalls.  Manufacturers should test all cars extensively so possible recalls would be found before the car is produced to the public.

Every since 1966 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has provided recall information about safety related defects or something that did not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards.  Problems range from fuel leaks to complete break failure or even air bags going off for no reason.

An example of a recent recall is the Ford Focus.  This automobile has had over 10 recalls and 6 investigations from the NHTSA.  Wheels had to be fixed because there was a problem with them falling off.  The 2000 model had an investigation with engine fires and air bags that deployed inadvertently.  2000-2002 models went under investigation for a collapse of the front suspension.  As you can see these aren’t little things that have no affect on you.  Many of these problems cause a great threat to the driver.  Wouldn’t you like these problems fixed before you sit in the driver’s seat?  Automakers aren’t the only companies who should have to test their product.  Tire companies should as well, causing tires to go through tests to eliminate any problems.

Firestone is an obvious recall that almost everyone has heard of.  Over 100 people died as a result from those defective tires.  The tires were blowing out causing serious accidents.  People were both killed and injured because of these defective tires.  Would you have bought that car if you knew the tires could blow out?  Try asking that question to the families of victims who died as a result of the tires.  These problems can be prevented by finding and eliminating them before the car is mass produced.

Auto manufacturers should thoroughly test their products, finding out and removing all defects.  Not only would it make vehicles safer, but it would also create vehicles that would require less maintenance.  Faulty parts and safety problems would be removed before the car would ever be on the market for people to buy.  With today’s technology, auto problems should be a distant wave of the past allowing consumers to purchase automakers products with confidence in its safety and construction.
