| Episode 9: Beneath the Surface First Aired: 4-03-2004 Guest Starring: Latham Gaines as Anton Mercer Summary: Conner, Kira, and Ethan are hanging out at Hayley's Cyberspace when Ethan's videogame noises bother Kira and Conner, who are working on a school project together, so Conner turns it off. Ethan is upset, but Conner tells him that he can't concentrate with all of the noise, to which Kira agrees. Kira wonders where Trent is, since he is not at work. Conner tells her that he thinks Trent is at home, spending quality time with his dad. Trent is at his house and in his father's office looking for the invisiportal from before, when his father, Anton, shows up. Trent tells him that there are some weird things happening. He then begins to question his father about the different projects that his father is into. Anton tells him that no matter what is going on, it is for the betterment of mankind and that Trent will feel the same in time. He then mentions that everything he has will belong to Trent and that Anton will begin preparing him for it soon. He then tells Trent that he should take a swim to relax. On the island fortress Zeltrax tells Elsa that he has a plan to send a creature down, but Elsa tells him that his plan will fail and shows him her plan, a dino egg. At school, Tommy is preparing his students to leave on a field trip dig. Cassidy approaches him and asks if she has permission to film the dig. She tells him that she wants to try covering more exciting things like the sciences, but Devin tells her that she told him that the subject was as dull as dirt. Tommy just laughs and tells her that it is ok. Tommy then gets his bag and prepares to leave, but Principal Randall arrives in dig gear and informs him that she is going too. At the dig site, Tommy shows Principal Randall a fossil that he found. She then helps him out of his dig hole. Not far away, Cassidy sees this while she is filming and and gets the idea that Randall is into Tommy. She tells Devin about her finding, and tells him that this will be good for her gossip report. Further away, Ethan, unearthes a dino egg and calls Conner and Kira over. Kira leaves and gets Tommy to help identify it better. Since, Randall is nearby, she tells Tommy that they need help identifying something that she calls a "morphasaurus." Tommy arrives at the egg and barely gets to see it when Randall arrives to look at it. She examines it and hands it back to Tommy, just in time for an army of Tyrannodrones to arrive. They fight (with Tommy fighting and guarding Randall), and Cassidy gets the idea to film the fight. During the fight, Randall almost gets knocked into a hole, but Tommy pulls her back just in time. They share a look, but Randall sees the egg fly through the air and land a little bit away and goes to get it. Tommy Randall throws him the egg and after the Tyrannodrones leave, they prepare to leave. Randall questions Conner, Kira, and Ethan where they learned to fight like that, but they just tell her karate club and walk off. At their HQ, the rangers examine the egg, only to find that it has no signs of life. Tommy tells them that that's weird because he is sure that it is the Dimetro Zord egg. Back at the dig site, Principal Randall, arrives and gets a dino egg. She picks it up, then morphs into Elsa. At HQ, Tommy informs the others that they are still getting a heat signature from the dig site area that they found the egg at. They believe that there might be another one, and Tommy leaves to investigate, leaving the others to examine the egg. In the woods, Elsa opens her dino egg and revives the Dimetro Zord. She tells it to go destroy. Tommy arrives in the forest soon after, only to be confronted by Zeltrax. Zeltrax talks about Tommy's destruction and Tommy morphs, causing a fight to ensue. At HQ, Ethan tells the others that he does not believe that a dino zord is in the egg. They then see the Dimetro Zord attacking a city on their monitor and decide to open the egg. Inside the egg, a hologram of Elsa appears and asks if that was not what they were expecting. The hologram then laughs and disappears. The rangers morph and have their zords individually attack the Dimetro zord. They hold their own, while Tommy continues to fight Zeltrax in the forest. Zeltrax tells Tommy that if he knows what is good for him, he will stay away from her. This causes Tommy to wonder what Zeltrax is talking about. A little bit later in the fight, Tommy uses the wind strike attack from his staff and Zeltrax get teleported out after getting hit by the attack. Tommy powers down and asks himself what Zeltrax's problem is. Zeltrax's portal throws him in front of Mesogog. Mesogog took Zeltrax out of the fight because he was going to lose and tells Zeltrax to leave his jealousy out of it. He then tells Zeltrax to send a monster down to help finish the job. Meanwhile, the dino zords are getting pummeled by the Dimetro Zord. The Dimetro zord burrows underground and the monster arrives. The rangers form the megazord. They fight, but begin to lose. They contact Tommy, who is in HQ, and he tells them that they need a blade or saw to break through the monster's armor. He then gets and idea to use the Dimetro zord. Conner tells him the zord isn't exactly nice, but Tommy tells him that he'll fix that. Tommy then brings up his morpher and concentrates, while the rangers fight the zord and monster. Tommy finally gets his morpher to gain the Dimetro face plate, causing Elsa's hold on the zord to break, and the zord to join forces with the rangers. They combine the Dimetro zord with their megazord, and using the Dimetro Blade attack, defeat the monster. This causes Tommy to celebrate by jumping around in HQ. In his fortress, Mesogog is reaming out Zeltrax and Elsa for failing and tells Elsa to remain close to Tommy as Randall. At school, Cassidy and Devin prepare to give their news broadcast. She tells her audience that there is a superhero working at Reefside (to which Tommy starts to worry). She tells them that Principal Randall fended off several Pre-historic creatures and tells Devin to run the tape. Unfortunately, they play the wrong tape. In the hall, Randall is yelling at students when Tommy comes up behind her. He tells her that she is pretty tough, and that he didn't have to worry about her too much. Randall is surprised that he was worried. They share another look and the bell rings. She tells him that he needs to go teach his next class and walks off. Conner, Kira, and Ethan walk up behind Tommy and start giving him grief about him and Randall possibly liking each other. My Thoughts: Overall, a pretty great episode. I like the dialog between Trent and Anton. It appeared to me to be some foreshadowing of Trent becoming the White ranger and Anton revealing that he is Mesogog, but we'll see. So, Elsa really is Principal Randall. I expected it all along, but now it's been confrimed. I wasn't really expecting the whole Principal Randall and Tommy thing. |
