| Episode 8: Golden Boy First Aired: 3-27-2004 Guest Starring: Islay Johnston as Hayley Latham Gaines as Anton Mercer Summary: The red, yellow, and blue rangers see a large monster in the distance attacking the city. They call for the zords and form the megazord. After a quick fight and the use of the Dino Drill attack, they defeat it. This angers Elsa and Zeltrax, who are currently in the fortress. Angry that they must depend on weak monsters, Zeltrax decides to enhance himself by using the Geno-Randomizer so that he can defeat the rangers himself. Elsa tells him that he'll either defeat the rangers or end up defeated himself, either way it's a good day for her. Zeltrax enters the Geno-Randomizer and after a few seconds, he exits it. He believes that it did not work as he looks and feels the same, but a voice behind Zeltrax says that he feels fine. The voice's owner, Golden Rod, then exits the Geno-Randomizer and addresses Zeltrax as his father. At Hayley's, Trent is swamped with work. Ethan tries to get his help on their project for a government class, but Cassidy's voice breaks through the noise and beckons Trent. Trent goes over to Cassidy and Devin's table to deliver the drink she wanted and Devin reminds him about his smoothie. As Trent leaves to get it, Anton Mercer, Trent's father, arrives to pick Trent up. When Trent tells him that he can't leave yet as the place is packed, Anton tells him that a managerial position would better suit a Mercer. Trent tells him not to worry about it, but Anton tells him that he will come up with an idea and leaves. Trent goes back to the counter to find that Devin has already started to make his own smoothie. Trent tells him that it's cool and walks off. Unfortunately, Devin forgets to replace the lid on the blinder and ends up blasting smoothie contents all over the place. Back on the island, Elsa and Zeltrax wonder why Golden Rod is calling Zeltrax father. Zeltrax doesn't seem to care and sends Golden Rod after Doctor Oliver. At the Cyber Cafe, Trent and Tommy are leaving for the day as Trent thanks Tommy for giving him the ride. Tommy tells him that is no big deal and tells Trent that Dr. Mercer never mentioned had a son. Trent then tells him that at the time, Mercer didn't. Trent tells him that his parents and Anton were working together on a dig, and there was a cave-in and when his parents didn't get out, Dr. Mercer took him in. They are finally on the road when Tommy notices someone behind them, who is running fast enough to keep pace with a moving vehicle. He stops the car and causes the person, who turns out to be Golden Rod, to slam into the back of the car and onto the ground. Tommy and Trent get out to examine the thing but don't get much of a chance to as Golden Rod quickly gets back up. He asks for Dr. Oliver and Tommy comes forward. They begin to fight, as Trent hides. When Trent sees that Tommy is losing, he decides to help and attacks Golden Rod. Trent is taken care of quickly, and a blast knocks Golden Rod back. The blast belongs to the Raptor cycles the rangers are riding to get them to the battlefield. They dismount and head of to fight Golden Rod. On the way, Kira, who is morphed, notices Trent in pain behind the car. Using his name, she asks how he is. Trent asks her how she knows his name, while the other two rangers fight Golden Rod. Zeltrax arrives soon though and takes Golden Rod with him as they retreat. Zeltrax has brought him back to the island fortress to use the geno-randomizer to increase Golden Rod's strength. Trent finally arrives home and enters Anton's office. He asks Anton why he doesn't hang out with Tommy any more. Anton simply says that he has moved on. He then informs Trent that he has bought the land that the cyber cafe is on, and thus has bought the cafe. This angers Trent as he tells Anton that he doesn't want to run the cafe and that Hayley is his friend. At Hayley's Cyberspace, she shows Ethan and Tommy the papers that informed her that the land was bought. They wonder who will run it when Trent shows up behind them. Ethan gives him flack about Anton buying the place for him, but Trent tells him that it wasn't his idea and wants to change things back. Tommy tells them that he'll look the paper over for any mistakes. Trent says that he has known his father long enough to know that he doesn't make mistakes, and Tommy tells Trent that he's known Anton long enough to know that he does. With that, Tommy, Ethan, and Trent get up to go to City Hall. Cassidy and Devin see this and decide that the story would make a great report and leave as well. Tommy, Ethan, and Trent arrive at City Hall and meet up with Councilwoman Sanchez outside of it. They don't have much time to talk though, as Zeltrax arrives with Golden Rod. Tommy sends Trent away with the councilwoman and Cassidy and Devin arrive to get an interview with the councilwoman, but are forced to retreat after they get blasted at. Trent then takes Councilwoman Sanchez behind a wall where they will be safe. She gives her thanks and offers to do anything for him. He tells her that there is something she can do and tells her that his father is making a big mistake by buying Hayley's Cyberspace. Tommy and Ethan are still fighting, but losing. Conner and Kira arrive soon and the four morph. Zeltrax calls for some Tyrannodrones and the real fight begins. Soon into the fight, Zeltrax tells Golden Rod to attack the city and Golden Rod makes himself larger. Tommy calls for the Brachio zord and the three rangers form the megazord. They begin to fight Golden Rod while Tommy, as usual, fights Zeltrax. Zeltrax offers to tell Tommy why he has a grudge against him, but only after Tommy watches Golden Rod defeat his students. Tommy says that he won't let that happen and knocks Zeltrax back enough to go after Golden Rod. Using the wind, earthquake, and fire strikes of his Brachio Staff, he defeats Golden Rod single-handedly. Upset at the defeat of the only family he's really known, Zeltrax vows vengeance against Dr. Oliver. Trent enters his house to talk to Anton but noone is home. He then notices an invisiportal while in Anton's office and touches it. This causes it to suck him in. At Hayley's, Anton has arrived with some builders and wants to begin tearing things down. Hayley stops him before he can start and Councilwoman Sanchez introduces herself to inform that he cannot tear anything down, as his purchase has been put on hold. She then informs him that he has his son to thank for it. Anton leaves, angry, and calls for his car, as there has been a change in plans. Soon after Anton gets outside, the portal shoots Trent outside of the cafe as well. Ethan invites Trent in, but Trent seems more interested in watching his father leave, who is still angry. My Thoughts: Overall, a pretty good episode. I was hoping / expecting more would have come of Trent going through the portal. |
