Doggie Diaries
Flapper
Flappie was my OD, original dog. I got him when he was 8 weeks old at an Los Angeles shelter. They had found him wandering the streets with no collar, no tags. He was a Belgium Shepherd mix, very protective and very loyal. He lived for food and would find ANY means to eat it. He was mischievous! Flap lived to 10 years of age, he died when his esophagus collapsed due to tumors surrounding it.
Cash
Cash was a Husky mix that I adopted on her last chance at a Valley shelter. She was going to be put down that night. Cash had been a very abused puppy, she was 6 months old and had cauliflower ears from being kicked so much. The vet was amazed that she was a nice dog because it was obvious that no human had ever been good to her. She only lived for another year, sadly she had to be put down in Alaska due to brain damage. I hope that at least she enjoyed the year she had with us, we loved her and miss her still.
Grunt
This tiny black Cocker/Schipperke mix joined the family very soon after Cash. I worked at an insurance company in a bad area of the valley at the time and a really dirty man came into the office with a box of pups. He asked if anyone wanted one. I took a peek at the tiny pups and grabbed Grunt. He came home in a little box and followed me everywhere! He was savagely attacked at 8 months old by a Samoyed who jumped the fence and ripped Grunt's back open and slammed his head repeatedly into a tree trunk. My neighbors hit the Samoyed with a rake, yet it still took forever for this horrid animal to let go of Grunt. After that, Grunt was wary of other dogs and had Epilepsy from the head trauma. Grunt was very protective and a joy for me. He lived to be 10 1/2, a ripe age for an epileptic dog.
