As far as I was concerned, once I

reached the Pacific Ocean, I could

claim that I made it cross-country.

That moment would occur mid-morning

on Day 7.  I left Tacoma early in the

morning and once I passed Olympia, I

made my way onto Route 8 and then

Route 12 into Aberdeen, located at the

eastern end of Grays Harbor.  From Aberdeen, I drove down Route 101 to the town of

Long Beach, nestled in the southwestern corner of Washington.  It was in Long Beach

that I reached the Pacific Ocean.  I walked along the beach for about 10 minutes.

There were only about 6 or 8 other people there - some joggers, some tourists.  A short

while after leaving Long Beach, I crossed the westernmost bridge which spans the

Columbia River to bring me into Oregon and the town of Astoria.  Leaving Astoria, I
continued along the Pacific coast,

through towns like Seaside and

Tillamook.  Every few miles along this

stretch of Route 101 can be found State

Parks or State Recreation Areas, and

there are many opportunities for scenic

views of the Pacific Ocean.  A short

distance before Lincoln City, I headed

east toward Salem, and then made may

way down to Springfield - making Day 7

the second of 5 days in my journey in

which I would reach my destination

before sunset.
Many magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean in Oregon await you.
