Brazil - Salvador Do Bahia

We arrived in Salvador and just felt in love with this city.

We are staying in the old area of Salvador trades which is called Pelhurinio, and this area is realy the heart of live music in Salvador. Here, clonial houses are colored in blue, pink, violet, green and yellw. During the day, all groups are practising their music in the streets in order to be the best ones once night live music time arrives (generaly it strats at 7 pm). Most of them enjoy practising outside, on the small streets of the colored area of pelhurinio, that s why all this area is living for: music and sounds. Most of the time, all the differents rythms are mixing together: crazy and louldly darbouka with quiet and charming bossa nova. guitares and birimbao, african reggae and samba ..... all just give you an impression that pelhurinio is like the heart of a giant orchestra bumping all the day without getting tired anytime. In all places and beaches people are dancing cpoeira : the symbol of the slaves insurrection in order to gain their liberty, and you can see everywhere in town cpoeira roda (cercle of musiciens and capoeirist with dancers inside the cercle). We also take capoeira lessons in the brazilian academy of capoeira angola (2 hours a day) and we feel more and more each day as a part of this musical world of Salvador...... At night, the center get even more crazy and all groups are concurencing one to the other in the streets with their differents sounds and instruments, streets are crowded of dancers and music lovers, african darbouka get mixed with sounds of guitars , reggae is getting confused with samba and bossa nova, and the old quarter is burning with this flame of music untill the early morning..... a real paradise for music lovers! Here, gods gave to salvadorien ingeniosity and materials so they could make instruments, a realy deep sensibility and they get creative, and a large heart so they can make you share all the feelings and joy of sounds, music and dance ....... we also took a tour 90km north to Salvaor, we visit a Turtle Reserve (very cute turtles ..) and stay in a very nice beach. meanwhile , we continue the Caporia lessons, we start to dance nice, and it is also a good exercise.
