A Place Called The Pit

This is the Epitome, better know by those who love it as the Pit.  It's Tallahassee's best coffee house but perhaps also one of the best places to tap into a touch of radicalism, hippyism, and almost anything else one might associate with alternative lifestyles.

I learned of the Pit from my buddy Mike, who has his own page.  It was about 3 years ago that he would mention the Pit in passing so I got curious.  He eventually explained what the place was but to be honest I neglected going.  The first time I recall being in the Pit I was only there for about 5 minutes while Mike checked to see if someone was around.  I didn't get a drink I didn't even sit down but I remember the place struck me as perhaps one fo the most bizarre environments possible.  Dimly lit and full of teenage and 20 somethings dressed as punks or goths.  It was something quite surreal and quite engaging.

It was shortly after this my first visit to the Pit that I was diagnosed with cancer.  So I left Tallahassee having only been there once and momentarily at that.  But I had heard many stories told by Mike and my buddy Tim, who also has a page.  And I think even my paragon of wisdom and virtue had been there once or twice, or so it is rumored.

Well I got better slowly and I returned to Tally but Mike was dead and I wasn't quite the same anymore.  However I did find Bruce and I did find Tim and they were familiar to me.  Slowly I've reintegrated myself, and Tim and the pit play a larger role in my current existence.

The Pit has become an occasional hang out and I guess I have endeared myself to some of its regulars and staff.  One man who is involved in a marijuana legalization movement calls me Cancer Mike, while some of the workers call me Cubano Man.  This is because I usually order Cafe Cubanos, which are small but have the potency of heroin or speed. And maybe since I was seen puffing  on one of Tim's cigars once.

Anyway for a little spice and variety and for reassurance that liberals and gays and pot smokers aren't dead drop in the Epitome if you're ever in town.  You may want to check out Computer Dudes who run a cyber cafe.  Or maybe you'll grab a snack at the vegetarian cafe.  Or you could always sit and watch a chess game or perhaps a game of GO, a Japanese and Korean game, which is occasionally played.  Or just buy a pack of cloves a cafe cubano and chill out while listening to convos or watching Iron Chef or Scooby Doo ont he tube while listening to Enya or Tori Amos, or whatever happens to be playin on the cd changer.  It's a good time to chill out be mellow all while taking in tons of caffeine, and maybe thats the oddest part of all.

This is a painting on the back of the Pit.  BTW the pit is located under a couple  popular night clubs and so on some nights you can watch freaks and frats walk bye its surreal.
