Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
This is the second video version of the song, geared
more towards the American audience. The (Irish) boys are in a crowded (American)
football stadium watching the contest between The Flys and The Lemons. That famous football announcer whose name escapes me at the moment (the one who does all the Ace Hardware commercials) is giving the audience the lowdown. The game is being played at the Unforgettable Fire Dome on a Sunday Bloody Sunday. The Lemons are coached by ... Dave Evans! (I wonder if the 'coach' is Edge's real dad.) The Flys are coached by ... Paul McGuinness! It's down to the last important play of the game, and The Flys call in their place kicker named ... Paul Hewson! Gee, I wonder where they came up with all these names? Edge has a mishap on the stairs as a result of a nachos container.
Adam is totally uninterested in the game and would rather read the paper
about his kind of football. Bono is oddly subdued during this video
(which was probably shot around the time his father's health was failing
which would explain things) and it's up to Larry of all people to be the
most animated of the group. Seriously, I have never seen Larry so active
in a video that didn't involve banging the drums. He jumping, smiling,
clapping, and doing that "Yes!" arm move. Makes me wonder if that's really
a CGI Larry. He must be for The Lemons as Hewson misses the field goal
with his kick and he's constantly reliving that moment he's stuck in and
can't get out of. In the end we see this football kicker age into a postal worker, an homage to Bono's dad who was a postman.
