Best Friend: Angel, In A Quick Bonding Period
Doyle, expertly played by the late, great, Glenn Quinn, had a distinction that not many in the history of both shows have. He was a true friend to Angel. It is my opinion that was the reason he was killed off and Wesley brought in. Wes wasn't as natural a friend and defender as Doyle was. And the producers wanted more conflict. Who was really a friend to Angel? Maybe Buffy and Whistler, but not Xander, Willow, Giles, or Spike. Maybe Faith and for a while Cordelia, but not Wesley, Gunn, or even Lorne or Fred. I hold a high standard for friendship, and I know Doyle was a true one to Angel. It showed in the Doyle and Angel scenes. There was an implicit trust that is not easy to come by.
