Installations

Where do I put the snapActions download and what do I do with it?

Where did the snapActions files get installed?

I have snapActions installed, how do I install the action packages?

Operations

When I run snapActions, I get the error "Unable to start the application--the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered"

When I run snapActions.jar, I get the error "Fatal exception occurred. Program will exit."

When I click to run an action, I get the error "Could not load the actions because the file could not be found." or "The Page Cannot Be Displayed."

I ran snapActions but don't see the new action in the How-To Palette.

Where do I put the snapActions download and what do I do with it?

Download the zip file to a temporary folder.

After you've downloaded the zip file, unzip it. Depending on whether you downloaded the PC or Mac version, you will find self-extracting installers for PCs (.exe files) or a .sit archive for Macs.

For PCs, double-click the .exe file to run. When prompted for an installation location, specify Photoshop Elements's installed path (e.g. "C:/Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 2").

For Macs, expand the archive to a temporary folder. Follow the instructions in MacInstall.rtf to manually move the files to their proper places.

After installation, read the ReadMe.html in Photoshop Elements's HTMLPalettes/Recipes/LUI/docs folder on how to use snapActions.

Where did the snapActions files get installed?

There are two main sets of files. The snapActions files and Photoshop Action sets. The snapActions files should have been installed in Photoshop Elements's "HTMLPalettes/Recipes" folder. Inside that folder, you should find the following sub-folders:

and the following files:

The Photoshop Action sets (.ATN files) should have been installed in Photoshop Elements's "Presets/Photoshop Actions" folder.

I have snapActions installed, how do I install the action packages?

The action packages are zip files. Download them to a temporary folder and unzip. Instructions are in a readme.txt in the zip.

I'm going to use Sheri's Sketch to illustrate the process of how to install an action. After downloading and unzipping, you have to move the specs files (.XML files) to the LUI/add folder and the action files (.ATN files) to the "Presets/Photoshop Actions" folder.

Now run snapActions.exe (or snapActions.jar). You should see something like this. You're not going to see all the menus and actions I have but it gives you the general idea. You should see "Action: Sheri's Sketch" on the Left Panel (1). Now hilight that entry, then hit the '->' button (2). Now "Action: Sheri's Sketch" should be on the Right Panel and no longer on the Left Panel. Finally hit the 'Generate' button (3). Exit snapActions.

Now start Photoshop Elements. Open the How To Palette and you should see Sheri's sketch at the bottom, as shown here. Again, your snapActions Index is going to look different, but Sheri's Sketch should be at the bottom group.

When I run snapActions, I get the error "Unable to start the application--the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered"

It means your PC doesn't have the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. That's okay. You can install Sun's Java Virtual Machine.

After you've installed Sun's JVM, download the JAR version of snapActions, unzip it, and put it in the same folder as snapActions.exe. Thereafter use snapActions.jar in place of snapActions.exe.

When I run snapActions.jar, I get the error "Fatal exception occurred. Program will exit."

It means snapActions.jar is in the wrong folder. It should be moved to Photoshop Elements's "HTMLPalettes/Recipes" folder.

When I click to run an action, I get the error "Could not load the actions because the file could not be found." or "The Page Cannot Be Displayed."

It means the Action file (.ATN file) is in the wrong folder. It should be moved to Photoshop Elements's "Presets/Photoshop Actions" folder.

I ran snapActions but don't see the new action in the How-To Palette.

Be sure to click the "Generate" button to create new index pages before you exit snapActions.
