Let me know what you all think of this:

Well, it might be a little early in the year to be getting this philosophical but the question has been bouncing around my head all weekend and I can't come up with a solid answer and I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks.  The question is what is happiness?  Is it a real, "tangible" feeling, or is it merely something we can convince ourselves exists.  When I see people I know earning oscar's for the way they pretend to be happy, only to catch them in a moment of weakness giving a glimpse into the realm of UN-hhappiness they live in, it makes me wonder what the truth is.  Is there a point when one can look around their life and say, "I'm truly happy with where my life is at this moment and where it's going", or is life a never ending search for something we all believe (or at least should believe) exists.  And why is it so hard sometimes to admit that we're not happy?  Is it so essential to our well-being that we can lie to ourselves and sometimes our friends to convince everyone AND ourselves that we ARE happy?  Even though, when we're alone with our thoughts, all we think about is how one aspect of our lives needs to change?  Is it a subconscious fear that happiness doesn't really exist that makes us deceive ourselves?  I hear people, even myself sometimes, say "...that doesn't happen to me.  I don't havfe that kind of luck to have (whatever) happen to me."  So instead, we convince ourselves that this is as good as it gets (great movie), and therefore since it can't get any better, then we must be happy.  Well, I don't believe that.  I believe life is a search for happiness, but you won't know you've found it until you trip over it.  You find that person, or you get that job, or you make some other decision that alters your life and then you wake up and you realize that there isn't anything, not ONE thing, you would change about your life.  That's happiness.  But, getting back to my question, why do so many people continue to deceive themselves, and put up with bad situations, when they could be travelling down the path that will allow them to trip over the rock in the ground that is happiness.
