| It's been 2 months to the day since I have flown halfway across the world. It's flying by way too fast.. | ||||||||||||
| Ko Chang: I went to "Elephant Island" for a weekend with some of my friends and our Thai friend. Our Thai friend, May, brought her cousin, aka brother/bodyguard. In Thailand, anyone who is your friend is also referred to as your brother. Anyway, May brought her brother Nong because all Thai girls are not allowed to travel by themselves, let alone go out at night by themselves. Wherever they go, they bring a guy with them as their bodyguard. So we all left for Ko Chang via a night bus at 10:30pm. We got into the port at about 3:30am and had to wait around until the first ferry left for the island at 6:30am. It wasn't as bad as it seems though. We got to see the sunrise and we didn't end up spending the whole day on a bus. We stayed in a semi-normal hotel room as opposed to Ko Samet's bungalows and huts. Spent the first day relaxing on the beach and exploring the island a bit. Ko Chang was different from Ko Samet because the mountains were right there. In Ko Samet you never set foot on them and you couldn't really even see them. But it was pretty neat to have the mountains right there and so close to the island's edge. The second day we went to the National Park and treked up part of the mountain to check out a waterfall. I wasn't enormous, but it produced an amazing site. We even got the chance to swim at the base of the waterfall and the pool that it created further downstream. During the night, we ate at restaurants that literally served you on the sand of the beach with the water about 30 yards away. It was pretty cool that most of the restaurants were actually set up on the beach itself. We had incredible weather too--didn't rain once. On Sunday afternoon we ended the weekend sojourn and headed back to the city, and to the last week of classses before midterms. *I can't believe how much time has passed, but midterms are already here. Will have midterms from July 30th until August 5th and then I'm heading to Bejing and Shanghai in China. I will be travelling in China from August 6th to August 18th, and I'm sure I'll have much to put up on the site upon my return. Until then.... |
