The Hanging of Signs

This tradition started even before new members were recruited. Our fearless leaders printed up a variety of signs with Avenger quotes and provoking questions just in time for national coming out day on october 12. The responce of the student body to the signs was mixed, even from the queer community. They did create a conversation, however, and brought the attention of our school to coming out day and glbt issues, but mostly we made them think about Lesbian Sex. The signs were torn down by the end of the day by both outraged students and a rather confused administration. Who were these Lesbian Avengers? Were they a campus group, a secret society, or an off campus group attempting to recruit students for some otherworldly (and un-Macon) activity?
For recruition, we new members were asked to perform similar activities, engage in sexual activities with the established members and then - hang signs - but this time to draw attention to gender issues to coincide with the campus symposium on women's bodies. (something we are so mystified with, we cannot control our obsessions regarding it) Our signs were down by noon this time. Our signs taken down immediately, with as it turns out, special order from certain administrators to res-life employees, with frat party advertisements left up for weeks even after the party is over. Grrr...
Our liason to the faculty, Femme Boy, has helped us to set up a meeting with the administration to discuss the signage situation, and perhaps we will become a "recognized" secret society with the right to recruit young nubile innocent freshmen and to hang our signs, offensive or not, all over school.
