Marie
and Lucia September 2001
When
we met Marie (78)and Lucia (73) in March 2001 they had no food or
heat. Lucia was out working every day cleaning houses and the people
she worked for gave her some food to bring home each day. We have
been able to assist by giving them money each month and this has
helped them to have good food.
We
have also been able to supply them with wood and this will be the
first winter in twenty years they will have heat (the temperature
fell to -19°C last winter). We also bought them new blankets,
sheets and of course what all Romanians want, shoes, everyone wants
shoes. So we got them good warm sensible boots. The pensions of
any elderly person in Romania could never stretch to items such
as wood or shoes.

Maria's
son died at the age of 47 and because he died the two ladies will
wear black for the rest of their lives. The ladies go to church every
day and to pray for the people of Ireland who help us to help them.
Its good to know they will have a better winter than the previous
one.
