Descriptions
SAFETY TOOL INSPECTION (All Participants) – All contestants will have their safety equipment inspected and or checked before they can participate. The judges will be looking for personal safety equipment that is broken, out of manufacture tolerances, or not approved. The following equipment will be tested: Lineman’s Boots, Lineman’s Belt and Pole Straps, Lineman’s Climbers and Straps, Safety Glasses, Hard Hats, Rubber Gloves, Bag and Protectors, and Leather Gloves.
POLE CLIMBING WITH RAW EGG (All Participants) Mean time 60 seconds – With agility and quickness the contestants climb a pole carrying a raw egg in a miniature canvas bucket, commonly known as a “nose bag”. At the top of the pole the lineman transfer an egg to their mouth, hang up the bucket and descend the pole in a controlled manner. The object is to climb and descend the pole without cracking or breaking the egg.
Rubber gloves will not be required at this event
Time starts when the lineman’s graff hits the pole

ROPE SPLICE
(Lineman Team) Mean time 6 minutes 30 seconds
–By combing three of the team members and their talents, the object is to tie a
splice in two pieces of rope and put eyes in both ends. This has to be done as
quickly and efficiently as possible there are points taken away for not keeping
the work area clean as well as improper spicing or eyes.
All three members participate
Time starts when all three members are in designated circle and signal the judge to start time.
Make a short splice, one eye splice with an inside length of at least 3” and one backlash using ˝” rope
Splice will be tested following the team’s completion of event
Scoring for rope splicing is based on the quality of the splice and eyes
HURT MAN RESCUE
(All Participants) Mean time 4 minutes
– The lineman simulate the rescue of an injured worker off the pole. It is very
important that the lineman do this promptly and efficiently because second scan
make a difference if an accident occurs.
The time starts at whistle standing
at a designated line an arm’s length from the pole. NOTE: The lineman’s belt
and hooks will be lying on the ground beside them at the whistle. Rubber gloves
will be inside the leather glove protector at the start of the event. Rubber
gloves are required ground to ground.
Dummy should be tied under arms with three half hitches
Dummy should be moved smoothly to the ground
Time is over when the dummy is on the ground and rope is slack
Rope will be furnished for hand lines
Two climbing Lineman’s scores are added together and averaged for the team score
Looking at the pole from the cross side, the hurt man and hand line will be hung on the right side.
The contestant will hang the hurt man dummy for the next participant

Guidelines
The Lineman’s Rodeo
Committee sets forth the judging guidelines as listed below. Each event will be
worth a total of 100 points. There will be no discretionary points awarded. The
team will be given a copy of the score sheet at the conclusion of each event. A
committee utilizing a computer to check and tally will tabulate the total of
all the scores and report the results.
The committee is including
a registration form for volunteers interested in judging an event. If
interested please fill out and return the enclosed registration form.

DISQUALIFICATION

Unprofessional behavior

Practicing on the rodeo field prior to the rodeo

Intentional sabotage or tampering with materials,
tools, or equipment on the rodeo field

Judge is disqualified for judging a team from his
own company. Team receives a zero for event
5.
Modifying rubber gloves in any way
5.
Doubling the mean time on any event ruslults in disqualification from that event.
