Team and Apprentice Requirements

 

A team consists of three qualified climbers.  An alternate must meet all requirements when used to replace an injured or disqualified team member.  The team is free to choose how the three participate in any given event; no substitutions or rotations will be permitted once an event begins.  Rodeo T-shirts will be provided for the 3-team members only.   Additional T-shirts and hats will be sold the day of the Rodeo.

 

Each participant will need to bring hooks, hardhat, belt, safety glasses, long sleeved shirt, 20kV rubber gloves, protectors and hand tools.  The team will need a set of URD cable preparation tools.  Hot sticks and rope will be provided.

FIRST PLACE TEAM & APPRENTICE WILL BE SPONSORED BY THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN LINEMAN’S RODEO IN THE ANNUAL NATIONAL LINEMAN’S RODEO!!

 

Individual trophies and prizes will be awarded to the First, Second, and Third place teams; First, Second, and Third Place apprentice; top REA team; top municipal team; top contractor team; top IOU, and top Old Timer team.  Participant plaques will be awarded to the companies the respective teams represent.

 

The entry fees cover the banquet costs for contestants and judges.  The additional banquet reservation form is for family and others wishing to attend.   Please return the appropriate Entry Form, Release Form, Banquet Form, and appropriate payment to the following address.

 

General Requirements/Rules

 

 

  1. For Old Timer teams, each member of the team must be 45 years or older by August 2, 2002. An Old Timer team may choose to compete in the Old Timer division or in another division but not in both. Old Timer teams are eligible to win top overall prizes. Old Timer team members are required to submit a photocopy of identification, such as a driver’s license, when submitting a team entry form.
  2. No Judging of fellow employees or family members. Judges will identify this situation when it arises and reassign competitors to a different station. In following these guidelines, the Alternate Head Judge and/or Rodeo Coordinator will be used to resolve disputes.
  3. Participants may ask the judge questions before the event begins, but not while he is judging. They may ask the judge to clarify any questions they have before the event starts. It is the participant’s responsibility to ask the questions.
  4. Points are deducted from categories identified in the Rodeo Guidelines, Event Descriptions, and Score Sheets. Additional deductions are to be cleared with the event Head Judge who will consule all their Station Judges for consistency. With no consensus during consultation, a Rodeo Coordinator will be called in to make a final ruling.
  5. Score sheets are to be fully completed on site by the Station Judge unless results are challenged. When challenged, the Station Judge will take the case to the Event Head Judge. When the Head Judge’s decision is challenged, a Rodeo Coordinator will be called in for a final ruling. 
  6. Competitors are not to leave the event area until they receive a score sheet copy that is fully completed by the Station and Head Judges. Originals go to score keeper via Head Judge. Score sheets will not be changed nor disputes be addressed after competitors leave the arena.
  7. Cheering is encouraged, but professional coaching from supporters outside the arena will be controlled by immediately deducting 2 points from the competitors followed by disqualification if not stopped.
  8. When the mean time on any event is doubled, the competitors are stopped, time is recorded and 10 points are deducted from their score.
  9. Be professional, fair, honest, consistent and observant.
  10. Unprofessional behavior, practicing on the rodeo field prior to event, or intentional sabotage or tampering with materials, tools or equipment will result in disqualification.

 

Rodeo Ground Regulations

 

  1. Maximum safety can only be achieved by adherence to stipulated rules and regulations governing the rodeo grounds and its use by all participating persons. The “Colorado Rural Electric Association Sate-Wide Rules” have been adopted as the safety rules for the lineman’s rodeo
  2. Participants will use their own tools, including hard hats, rubber gloves, hand tools, etc. participants must have available suitable eye protection such as sunglasses and/or safety glasses.
  3. All persons in the competition area will wear hard hats.
  4. Suitable clothing must be worn. Long-sleeved shirts with sleeves down must be worn while working.
  5. EMT’s will be available on the rodeo field at all times.
  6. Climbers or hooks will not be worn on the ground while not engaged in actual line work.
  7. Each person participating in the competition will pay strict attention to all instructions and will please refrain from idle talk, jokes and other distracting activities.
  8. Rubber gloves shall be worn ground to ground on all structures. EXCEPTION: Speed Climb
  9. Rubber gloves shall be worn during all gloving procedures.
  10. All conductors shall be in constant control at all times when not permanently secured.
  11. There shall be no other work performed on the structure while hot line work is being done on any given structure.
  12. While ascending or descending a pole, there shall be only one person moving at a time. Other persons shall remain belted off.
  13. All participants and visitors will respect all rules, regulations and property. Any infraction will be cause for dismissal by authorities or judges.
  14. Only authorized vehicles will be permitted on the grounds.
  15. Enforcement of the rules and regulations will be the responsibility of the coordinators, judges and safety officials.
  16. Wearing of climbers outside of event areas or from event to event will result in point deductions by any observing judge or official of the rodeo.
  17. Mesa Hotline School, WestPlains Energy, and the rodeo grounds land owner assumes no responsibility for the safety of the participants, nor will any aforementioned be liable in case of accidents.
