| Tonight I have shed a tear for humanity. A solitary drop of decency in a river of despair. Where does that tear fall too? Is any place untouched by humanity left to contain such a drop? No amount of tears will stop this flow of humanity which kills and maims all that is in its path. Do we as a species warrent such respect. Do we deserve all this which we have. How can we continue in directions we are not even aware of. Like a runaway train with no engineer, yet the path ahead is unclear and the engine demands more steam. Faster and faster, oblivious to the possibility that a turn demanding a slower spead lies ahead in the dark. Where will we derail, or if we don't will the destination be desirable. No answers to questions directed at engineers. I sit here, shedding tears for humanity. How many miles must I travel to find some one who sheds them out of want. How far must I go to find them shed of fury. How far to a tear of fear. Tears, they fall like rain in our wonderful race. They wet our faces with sorrow and fear and hope and pity and then they evaporate like all those worries when we return to our daily live. All that is left is a longing to forget, to toil with some fixable problem like what to cook for dinner or who will win the election. No longer do we feel that wretchedness of our souls, no longer do we feel those pains deeply rooted. Maybe they should be pushed aside, maybe that is the only way. |
