This Fire In Which We Burn

(In memory of Jeff Buckley)

Death....

Shelly sleeps beneath the ocean floor

and his soul moves across the wake of

the ocean's waves, like the current

his voice becomes momentum

Youth....

The words seek the innocent mind,

there they pause, young romantic girls and

wild unconquered boys hear the call,

respond. Some even become heroes, heroines,

others poets dark and yet equally light.

Rimbaud he claims all others for theirs

is a calling which even gods cannot

fathom, somehow modern and yet more

unacquired. Wolf children. Vampires.

Free loving adolescents on the edge of

desire. Adults. No childhood. All tomorrow's

parties possibly ending tonight. A crucifix

hangs from the rock star's throat, he smiles

howls and screams into the void, completes

the cycle. This like the prophesiesed coming

of each new messiah during the beginning and

ending of each civilized society, and this

is the sign by which the animal lives, and

the one part of ourselves.....

We deny
