Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research

Public Gallery

The Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research has been actively contributing to the study of Southeast Asian biodiversity for more than 100 years, there has been little means of sharing this knowledge with the general public for the past 30 years. With the official launch of the Public Gallery by Rear-Admiral Teo Chee Hean, the Minister for Education, on 15th June 2001, we are once again able to welcome members of the public to the museum.

A small part of the museum's 500,000 specimens is showcased here, with the intent of providing an introduction to Southeast Asian biodiversity to the masses.

Presently, the Public Gallery highlights ten topics featuring the biodiversity of Southeast Asia:

  • The Five Kingdoms, featuring the Biodiversity of Singapore

  • Tropical Habitats

  • Surprising Singapore

  • The Wonderful World of Crabs

  • Education

  • Things People Eat

  • Conservation Issues

  • Biodiversity Research & Expeditions

  • Raffles the Naturalist

  • New Discoveries.

Together we shall touch upon these themes in the following pages of the gallery.
