Biographical Information:
Born Konigshutee, Germany Dec 24, 1906
German born, American composer
Completed musical studies in Dresden and Berlin
Supported himself by playing piano in a nightclub while
in school
1929 he was hired to arrange and conduct Frederick Hollander's
score of the Blue Angel, the success of which brought him to Los Angeles
to produce additional films
Arrived in Hollywood just as film music was developing
as an art
His first original film score, The Bride of Frankenstein
1935
Worked on 144 films received 12 academy award nominations
winning twice
He also did concert works: Song of Terezin which was
his last composition
Also a gifted conductor, Waxman founded the Los Angeles
International Music Festival in 1948
He was the 1st American to conduct music in the Soviet
Union
