THE HOLOCAUST Holocaust music is depicted as sad and horrifying. There are tremendous amounts of fear and power. Some of the most significant composers are Morton Gould, Krzysztof Penderecki, Arnold Schoenberg, Dmitry Shostakovich, and Franz Waxman. Many holocaust pieces, such as Shostakovich's Symphony No. 13 and A Survivor From Warsaw are intended to be socially responsible. They were written to bring attention to the social wrongdoings of the Holocaust. Other pieces like Song of Terezin by Franz Waxman, are intended to be healing music. The poems written by the children in the concentration camp reflected the time they spent, but were sung by mother figures to help individuals cope with the loss and move on.
