These two flyers are from the first time I saw Van Halen live. They
were playing at The Proud Bird Restaurant near LAX. I ended up about four feet from
Alex's drum kit. There wasn't a stage; they were playing on the dance floor and everyone
was packed around them. I knew right then that they were going to hit it big. About
six months later Van Halen I was released.
Before Dokken was named, Don Dokken's band was called Airborn. Bobby Blotzer and
Juan Croucier (from RATT) both played with him at that time. The band that I was
involved with, Euphoria, played many a gig with Don's bands. Here are two flyers
from that era.
There was also a short-lived club in Redondo Beach where we used to hang out called
the Fleetwood. I remember that during the day it was used as a practice studio.
Don Dokken's band Airborn used to practice there along with another band that Mick
Mars lead. Mick Mars, of course, would go on to form Motley Cre.
