J-Shape

The caterpillar goes into the J-shape when it is ready to go into its chrysalis.  The caterpillar crawls up the side of the tree to hang from the branch.  He hangs upside down by his prolegs which are like suction cups.  He spins silk from his mouth and  uses the silk to attach himself to the branch.
