"This is the true story of seven strangers picked to live in a loft and have their lives taped. Find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real. The Real World: New York." In 1992, The Real World spawned a new genre of television with its fresh documentary/soap opera formula. Seven diverse young people from all over the country moved into a New York apartment in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. All seven pursued their own dreams in the big city-a model, a dancer, a writer, a rapper, a rock singer, an artist, and a singer-we are allowed to witness their triumphs and failures. A possible romance developed between two of the roommates, Eric and Julie, the lone gay cast member, Norman embarks on a serious relationship, and racial tensions heated up between Kevin and the roomies.
»Real World Season Two: Los Angeles«
Season Summery
The Real World headed to Los Angeles for its second season, and found itself with nine cast members over the course of the season. There was major drama in Los Angeles, as one cast member traveled home to Ireland, one got married, and one was asked to leave. As relationships and tensions develop, The Real World expanded to 22 episodes in its second season, and the cameras captured every moment.
»Real World Season Three: San Francisco«
Season Summery
The Real World San Francisco is one of the most recognizable seasons--it was put in the national spotlight because of the role AIDS/HIV played for one of the cast members during the season. For the first time, the majority of the cast members came from places other than the city in which they live. With four out of the seven members from outside the Bay Area, finding jobs became a major task for the housemates. Romance was also a huge issue throughout the season, which resulted in engagements for two of the seven strangers. And of course, who could forget that lovable (or not-so-lovable) Puck, who got tossed out of the house during the season.
»Real World Season Four: London«
Season Summery
The Read World took a trip abroad to London for its fourth season. Cast members hailed from the United States, Germany, Australia and England; and their diverse backgrounds made for heated interaction in the house, as they all faced cultural differences, found romance, searched for jobs and adjusts to living in a foreign city. As if that weren't enough, the cast ended their adventure with an eye-opening trip to Africa.
»Real World Season Five: Miami«
Season Summery
The Real World Miami spun on a new axis when the seven strangers lived in a waterfront house in South Beach and attempted to start a business together. Ideas ran the gamut from a cyber punk coffee shop to a skate park, to their very own fashion line. But with the myriad of temptations available in Miani, the business became just one of this season's dramas emanating from the house in Rivo Alto Island. Flora juggled two boyfriends, Dan embarked on a modeling career, and of course, the infamous "shower scene"...
»Real World Season Six: Boston«
Season Summery
The Real World Boston cast lived in a converted historic firehouse, where their different backgrounds and relationships laid the foundation for all that happened. Unlike previous seasons, this cast spent a large amount of time with children in the first NSACA Pilot Accredited after school program in East Boston. How the cast deals with what starts out as a tedious job but turns into a rewarding experience is one of the season's major stories. The cast also travels to Puerto Rico for the first ever Real World/Road Rules Challenge. But there's plenty of Boston-based drama, including a forbidden romance between Syrus and a mother from the program, Genesis' relationship with a drag queen, and Montana getting fired.
»Real World Season Seven: Seattle«
Season Summery
Set on Pier 70 with a stunning view of Seattle's Elliott Bay, this Real World featured--for the first time--cast members who knew each other before arriving at the house. To give the show a new music twist, the seven strangers worked as "modulators" at alterna-rock radio station, 107.7 The End. What began as a series of promotional duties eventually lead to producing and hosting a live radio show. The gang had to deal with major issues ranging from the perils of long-distance relationships to suicide. Later in the season, the cast members traveled to Nepal in support of their various radio station duties. And who could forget Stephen's goodbye slap for Irene?
»Real World Season Eight: Hawaii«
Season Summery
Set amidst the beautiful beaches of Honolulu, The Real World's eighth season offered many firsts for the show. Echoing the aloha spirit pervasive on the island, the seven strangers ran their own café and performance space in Waikiki. Booking local music acts, the cast set up its own production company, appropriately called Seven Strangers Productions. Back at the plantation-style beachfront home they shared, two roommates got involved in a serious romance for the first time. The tone gets more serious later in the season when the cast was forced to deal with one of their roommate's alcohol abuse. And for the first time, the cast got to choose anywhere in the world for the annual Real World vacation. India, anyone?-
»Real World Season Nine: New Orleans«
Season Summery
The Real World New Orleans found its newest recruits living amidst the old-world charm and southern decadence of New Orleans, where they are met with the ironic challenge of co-producing and hosting their own cable access television program. They shared an immense Greek revival mansion located on the tree-lined parade-route of St. Charles Avenue in the historic Garden District. The cast had front row seats to the city's endless stream of pageantry passing outside their front door. Throughout the season, the cast embarked on a variety of distinct New Orleans experiences, from a masked ride on a Mardi Gras float; to a dinner party at the home of a famous local author; to a swamp tour through the alligator-infested bayou; and into the French Quarter's seedy strip clubs. This season also had the first hidden relationship in "Real World" history: a male roommate's boyfriend visited the house under the condition that his face be concealed from the camera for fear of the repercussions that would result from his being identified as a gay in the military.
