Garrett was one of three mining camps constructed by the Elk Horn Coal Corporation on Right Beaver Creek during the 1912-1915 period. The above photo, which appeared in a company promotional booklet published in 1915, shows the town under construction. It included a company store, 104 duplexes, and 13 single-family houses. All of the houses were lighted by electricity and heated by natural gas, although they didn't have indoor plumbing. Courtesy of Marilyn Isaac of Wayland, Kentucky.
