The lowly Musicmaster Bass amp, Originaly intended as a low end student bass amp, a match for the Musicmaster Bass guitar, it is a low power (optimistically rated at 12 watts) amp with a poor reputation as a bass amp (though I used one with an upgraded speaker for bass practice and recording for a few years) but a nice rep as a guitar amp. These came in two different versions, the early 70's models came with 6AQ5 power tubes, the later 70's models came with 6V6 power tubes. Though the 6AQ5's are physically smaller than 6V6's, they are supposed to be identical electronically. I've got two of these amps, one of both power tube types. With a few small tweaks and a speaker replacement (the stock speaker in these amps is really poor) these make fantastic little guitar amps, in fact out of a small collection of vintage Fender amps, I may like these little MMBass amps best of all (once they've been tweaked a little bit). I keep one of these at my band's practice room, so I don't have to haul an amp around to practice, and I enjoy playing thru it so much at rehearsals I bought a second one to have on hand, here at home, that I can practice with on my own and perhaps take it out to a blues jam or two.
As I go thru this 2nd amp I'm going to document the mods, tweaks and upgrades and post the documents here so you can perform them on your MMBass amp too if you'd like. I make these doc's available for personal use for anyone, your're free to use them for personal use; if you pass along the info to others I'd appreciate if you give credit where it's due.
